7. We celebrate Jesus’ Birthday
Every Christmas season, I try to choose some Christmas songs that I like and make a playlist so that I can listen
to them while driving. I love old singers such as Pat Boone, Bing Crosby, Perry Como, Frank Sinatra and etc. and
all the Christmas songs that I listen to and sing make me feel so much like Christmas.
But the more I listen to and sing those songs, it makes me realize that I sing for different things when I sing those songs.
First, I sing for Santa. For Christmas, where we celebrate Jesus’ birth, I sing for Santa and his reindeers and red nose.
I also sing for the Christmas atmosphere. I sing for snow and people coming home and families and couples being together.
(I’ll be home for Christmas. All I want for Christmas is you.) and lastly, I sing for Jesus.
When I sing for Jesus, I sing because I like this Christmas atmosphere. When people made those Christmas songs, they
mostly likely made those songs to worship and adore Jesus for coming on this earth to save us from our sin by dying on
a cross and being raised up on the third day. When they made those songs, they probably remembered Jesus and His love,
sacrifice, and victory over sin and how He gives a way for sinners to be saved. But when I sing those songs, I only sing
because I like this atmosphere that Christmas brings. Yes, we can still enjoy this atmosphere. It’s beautiful. But we have
joy in Christmas because of Jesus opening THE WAY for us to be saved and be connected to God the Father.
Does this bother you? Frankly, It did bother me. I did not want to admit that I enjoyed this simple Christmas atmosphere
and feelings more than Jesus coming to be my Lord and Savior. Is this a burden to sing and praise Jesus on Christmas?
It maybe was for me.
In this Christmas season, let’s worship Jesus. With your Christmas playlist, let’s praise Jesus. Let’s not praise Santa or
just this mere atmosphere that will quickly die down on the 26th of December, but let’s praise Jesus who has brought us
this everlasting joy of salvation and loving relationship with God our Father. Jesus is worthy of our praise and worship.
“She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21
