짤리는 이유, 붙어 있는 이유
"The reason for being cut off, the reason for staying attached."
로마서11:16-24
- 맏물로 바치는 빵 반죽 덩이가 거룩하면 남은 온 덩이도 그러하고, 뿌리가 거룩하면 가지도 그러합니다.
- 그런데 참올리브 나무 가지들 가운데서 얼마를 잘라 내시고서, 그 자리에다 돌올리브 나무인 그대를 접붙여 주셨기 때문에, 그대가 참올리브 나무의 뿌리에서 올라오는 양분을 함께 받게 된 것이면,
- 그대는 본래의 가지들을 향하여 우쭐대지 말아야 합니다. 비록 그대가 우쭐댈지라도, 그대가 뿌리를 지탱하는 것이 아니라, 뿌리가 그대를 지탱한다는 것을 명심해야 합니다.
- 그러므로 "본래의 가지가 잘려 나간 것은, 그 자리에 내가 접붙임을 받게 하시려는 것이었다" 하고 그대는 말해야 할 것입니다.
- 옳습니다. 그 가지들이 잘린 것은 믿지 않은 탓이고, 그대가 그 자리에 붙어 있는 것은 믿었기 때문입니다. 그러니 교만한 마음을 품지 말고, 도리어 두려워하십시오.
- If the first piece of dough is holy, the lump is also; and if the root is holy, the branches are too.
- But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree,
- do not be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you.
- You will say then, "Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in."
- Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith Do not be conceited, but fear;
지금 전 세계는 트럼프 대통령 취임 후에 벌어지고 있는 일들고 뉴스를 가득메우고 있습니다. The world is currently filled with news about the events unfolding after President Trump's inauguration.
최근 한국의 모 일간지에서 트럼프가 대통령이 되기 전에 있었던 기자와 그의 부인이 될 애인과 인터뷰한 내용을 소개한 것을 보았습니다. Recently, I saw an article in a Korean daily newspaper that introduced an interview with a journalist and his future wife before Trump became president.
질문: 영부인이 된 모습을 상상한 적 있으세요? Question: Have you ever imagined yourself as the First Lady?
답변: 네, 저는 재클린 케네디나 베티 포드같이 아주 전통적인 영부인이 될 것 같아요. Answer: Yes, I think I would be a very traditional First Lady, like Jacqueline Kennedy or Betty Ford.
질문: 그가 부자여서 만나나요? Question: Are you seeing him because he is wealthy?
답변: 사람들이 저를 잘 몰라서 하는 말이에요. 아름다운 집, 차, 비행기와는 함께 살거나 대화하거나 포옹할 수 없어요. 사람을 그저 공허하게 만들 뿐이죠. Answer: People say that because they don't know me well. You can't live with, talk to, or hug a beautiful house, car, or plane. They only make a person feel empty.
질문: 남자 친구가 대통령직에 도전할까요? Question: Will your boyfriend run for president?
답변: 네, 그는 언젠가 대선에 출마할 거 같아요. 그는 똑똑한 사업가예요. 훌륭한 대통령이 될 겁니다. Answer: Yes, I think he will run for president someday. He is a smart businessman. He will make a great president.
그녀의 예언대로 남편인 트럼프는 실제로 대통령이 되었습니다. As she predicted, her husband, Trump, indeed became the President.
한 나라의 임금이나 대통령이 되는 것은 사람이 하는 일이 아니라, 하나님이 친히 하시는 일이라는 것을 성령을 읽어본 사람들이라면 누구나 알 수 있습니다(단2:21). Anyone who has read the Bible can understand that becoming a king or president of a country is not something done by people but is the work of God Himself (Daniel 2:21).
결혼 전 인터뷰에서 예언적으로 선포한 그녀의 말은 그대로 이루어졌습니다. Her prophetic declaration during the interview before their marriage came true exactly as she predicted.
아니 하나님께서 그녀의 입술을 통하여 선포하게 하신 것이라고 해석해야 더 정확할 것입니다. Rather, it would be more accurate to interpret it as God proclaiming through her lips.
하나님께서 쓰시려고 선택하신 사람이나 민족은 반드시 용도에 맞게 사용 하신 후에 일을 마치신다고 믿습니다. I believe that God will always use the people or nations He has chosen for His purposes and will accomplish His work through them accordingly.
이제 대한민국으로 눈을 돌려 봅시다. 지금 계엄령 선포와 대통령 탄핵 사건으로 온 나라가 깨어나고 있습니다. Let's turn our attention to South Korea. The entire nation is currently awakened by the declaration of martial law and the presidential impeachment incident.
대한 민국 대통령도 겉으로 보기에는 사람들이 세운 것 같지만, 하나님이 세우셨다고 믿습니다. Although it may seem that the President of South Korea is elected by the people, I believe that it is God who appoints them.
하나님께서 세우신 목적에 따라 사명을 다 한 후에 일을 정리하실 줄로 믿습니다. I believe that God will conclude His work once the mission He appointed is fulfilled according to His purpose.
임기를 다 채우지 못했는데도 불구하고 사명을 다했다면, 조기 퇴진으로 이어질 것이고, 아직 사명이 남아 있다면 임기를 다 채우고 마칠 것입니다. If the mission has been fulfilled even without completing the full term, it will lead to early resignation. However, if there is still a mission remaining, the term will be completed and concluded.
오늘 성경 본문에서 저자 사도 바울이라는 사람은 이스라엘 백성들은 하나님께서 사용하시려고 특별히 선택하여 세운 민족이며 나라라는 것을 확인하고 강조하고 있습니다. In today's scripture passage, the author, Apostle Paul, confirms and emphasizes that the Israelites are a people and nation specially chosen and appointed by God for His purposes.
그리고 두 가지 예화를 들어가면서 하나님은 아직 유대인들과 할 일이 남아 있다는 것을 증명하고 있습니다. And by providing two examples, he demonstrates that God still has unfinished business with the Jewish people.
그 두가지 예 중에, 하나는 ‘빵 반죽덩’이 이야기이고(16절상), 다른 하나는 ‘감남나무’ 이야기입니다 (16하-24절). Among these two examples, one is the story of the 'dough offering' (verse 16a), and the other is the story of the 'olive tree' (verses 16b-24).
- 맏물로 바치는 빵 반죽 덩이가 거룩하면 남은 온 덩이도 그러하고, 뿌리가 거룩하면 가지도 그러합니다.
- If the first piece of dough is holy, the lump is also; and if the root is holy, the branches are too.
그러면서, 할 일을 다 하지 못하고 혹은 임기를 다 채우지 못하고, 잘리는 이유와 끝까지 할 일을 감당하도록 ‘붙어있게 하는 이유’에 대하여 설명하고 있습니다. In doing so, he explains the reasons why one may be "cut off" for not completing the task or fulfilling the term, and the reasons why one may continue to "remain" in order to fulfill the task until the end.
이것은 우리의 수명에도 적용할 수 있습니다. 하나님께서 나를 이 땅에 보내주신 목적을 다 이루시기 위해서 호흡이 붙어 있게도 하시고, 사명을 감당하는 삶을 살지 않으면 호흡을 거둬가실 수 도 있습니다. This can also be applied to our lifespan. God keeps our breath on this earth to fulfill the purpose He sent us for, and if we do not live a life fulfilling our mission, He may take our breath away.
이 모든 능력은 하나님에게 달려 있습니다. All of this power depends on God.
저는 오늘 설교 제목을, 잘리는 이유, 붙어있는 이유라고 정했습니다. I have titled today's sermon: "The Reason for Being Cut Off and the Reason for Remaining."
사랑하는 성도 여러분, 저는 오늘 로마서 11장에 담긴 올리브 나무와 가지의 비유를 통해 우리 신앙 생활과 사회 생활, 직장 생활, 그리고 공동체 생활에 적용할 수 있는 중요한 교훈을 나누고자 합니다. Beloved congregation, today I wish to share important lessons from the parable of the olive tree and branches found in Romans 11, applying them to our spiritual lives, social lives, work lives, and community lives.
로마서 11:16-24 을 요약 하자면 이렇습니다. 사도 바울은 올리브 나무와 가지의 비유를 사용하여 하나님의 은혜와 선택, 그리고 신앙의 지속성을 강조하고 있습니다. To summarize Romans 11:16-24, Apostle Paul uses the parable of the olive tree and its branches to emphasize God's grace, election, and the perseverance of faith.
이스라엘은 '참 올리브 나무'로 비유되며, 이방인은 '접붙여진 가지'로 묘사됩니다. Israel is compared to the "true olive tree," while the Gentiles are described as the "grafted branches."
믿음을 저버린 일부 이스라엘은 잘려 나갔고, 그 자리에 이방인이 접붙여졌습니다. Some of the Israelites who abandoned their faith were cut off, and in their place, the Gentiles were grafted in.
그러나 이방인들도 교만하지 말고, 하나님을 두려워하며 믿음을 지켜야 한다는 경고를 받고 있습니다. However, the Gentiles are also warned not to be arrogant, but to fear God and maintain their faith.
자, 그렇다면 먼저, 우리가 ‘잘리는 이유’는 무엇일까요? So, what are the reasons for being "cut off"?
1. 믿음의 상실입니다 (20-21절)
1. The loss of faith (Verses 20-21)
- 옳습니다. 그 가지들이 잘린 것은 믿지 않은 탓이고, 그대가 그 자리에 붙어 있는 것은 믿었기 때문입니다. 그러니 교만한 마음을 품지 말고, 도리어 두려워하십시오.
20.Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith Do not be conceited, but fear;
- "하나님께서 본래의 가지들을 아끼지 않으셨으니, 접붙은 가지도 아끼지 않으실 것입니다.
- for if God did not spare the natural branches, He will not spare you, either.
예: 믿음 없는 삶을 살아가는 사람은 신앙 생활에서 멀어지며, 공동체에서도 신뢰를 잃을 수 있습니다. 직장에서도 책임감과 신뢰를 저버리면 결국 잘리게 됩니다. For example: People who live a life without faith drift away from their spiritual life and can lose trust within their community. In the workplace, if one abandons responsibility and trust, they will eventually be dismissed.
자, 우리가 왜 잘려 나가는가? Why are we cut off?
2. 교만함과 불순종 때문입니다 (로마서 11:20하).
- Because of arrogance and disobedience (Romans 11:20b).
"마음을 높이지 말고 도리어 두려워하라." "Do not be arrogant, but rather fear."
예: 교만한 태도는 하나님의 은혜를 잊게 만들고, 공동체와 직장에서의 관계를 악화시킵니다. 상사나 동료들, 가족들에게 겸손하지 못할 때 결국 소외될 수 있습니다. For example: An arrogant attitude can make one forget God's grace and worsen relationships within the community and workplace. When one is not humble towards superiors, colleagues, or family members, it can ultimately lead to isolation.
자, 그럼 이제는, 붙어있는 이유에 대하여 알아보겠습니다. Alright, now let's explore the reasons for remaining.
1. 믿음의 지속성이 붙어 있게 합니다 (로마서 11:22). The Continuity of Faith Keeps Us Attached (Romans 11:22)
- 그러므로 하나님의 인자하심과 준엄하심을 생각해 보십시오. 하나님은 넘어진 사람들에게는 준엄하십니다. 그러나 그대가 하나님의 인자하심에 머물러 있으면, 하나님이 그대에게 인자하게 대하실 것입니다. 그렇지 않으면, 그대도 잘릴 것입니다.
22. Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God's kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off.
예: 신앙 생활에서 믿음을 지키는 사람은 하나님과의 관계가 굳건해지며, 공동체와 직장에서 신뢰를 받게 됩니다. 어려움 속에서도 믿음을 지키는 사람은 결국 하나님께서 붙들어 주십니다. For example: Those who keep their faith in their spiritual life strengthen their relationship with God and gain trust in their community and workplace. Even in the face of difficulties, God ultimately upholds those who maintain their faith.
자, 우리가 붙어 있는 이유 그 두 번째는, Alright, the second reason we remain attached is:
2. 겸손함과 순종때문입니다 (로마서 11:18). Because of Humility and Obedience (Romans 11:18)
18.그대는 본래의 가지들을 향하여 우쭐대지 말아야 합니다. 비록 그대가 우쭐댈지라도, 그대가 뿌리를 지탱하는 것이 아니라, 뿌리가 그대를 지탱한다는 것을 명심해야 합니다.
18. do not be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you.
예: 겸손한 태도는 공동체와 직장에서 존중받고, 좋은 관계를 유지하게 합니다. 하나님께 순종하며 살아가는 사람은 하나님의 은혜 안에 머무를 수 있습니다. For example: A humble attitude garners respect within the community and workplace, and helps maintain good relationships. Those who live in obedience to God can remain in His grace.
이스라엘 왕 바아사 군대가 남쪽 유다의 아사 왕을 치러 올라올 때, 아사왕은 두려운 나머지 그들 북쪽에 있는 시리아왕의 군대를 의지하려고 했을 때, 선견자 하나니라는 사람이 해 준 말이 있다(역대하16:9). When King Baasha of Israel marched against King Asa of Judah in the south, Asa, out of fear, sought the help of the army of the King of Syria in the north. At that time, a seer named Hanani said to him (2 Chronicles 16:9).
그 말씀을 의지하여 저도 우리 새한 성도들에게 저는 격려와 도전의 말씀을 드리고 싶습니다. Relying on those words, I also want to offer words of encouragement and challenge to our Saehan congregation.
주님께서는 그 눈으로 온 땅을 두루 살피셔서, 전심전력으로 주님께 매달리는 이들을 힘있게(붙어 있게) 해주십니다. 믿으시면 아멘해 보시기 바랍니다. The Lord looks over the whole earth with His eyes, and He strengthens (keeps attached) those who wholeheartedly cling to Him. If you believe this, please say Amen.
그리고 또 한 가지, (유다 여호사밧 왕때, 모압과 암몬 연합군이 유다를 처들어 왔을 때입니다. 그 때 유다 모든 백성이 두려워하고 있을 때, 선견자 자손 중에서 야하시엘이라는 사람이 선포한 말이 있습니다(역대하 20:15). And one more thing, when the Moabites and Ammonites invaded Judah during the reign of King Jehoshaphat, all the people of Judah were afraid. At that time, a man named Jahaziel, a descendant of the seers, proclaimed these words (2 Chronicles 20:15).
그 말씀을 의지하여 저도 우리 성도들에게 오늘 이렇게 당부드리고 싶습니다. Relying on those words, I would like to offer this encouragement to our congregation today.
"모든 새한 성도님들은 들으시기바랍니다. 주님께서 여러분에게 말씀하십니다. '고되고 힘든 일(적군)이 아무리 많다 하여도, 여러분들은 두려워하거나 겁내지 마시기 바랍니다. "Attention all Saehan congregation members. The Lord speaks to you: 'No matter how many hardships (enemies) you face, do not be afraid or discouraged.
왜냐하면, 우리가 잘리느냐 붙어 있느냐의 문제는 여러분이 하는 것이 아니라, 만군의 주 우리 하나님이 맡아 하는 것이기 때문입니다. because whether we are cut off or remain is not determined by us, but by the Lord of hosts, our God.
우리는 모두 하나님 자녀들의 공동체에서 잘리지 않고 붙어 있기를 바라고 있습니다. 아멘입니까? We all hope to remain and not be cut off from the community of God's children. Amen?
그러나 잘리지 않고 붙어 있고 싶은데, 어떻게 해야하나? 그럴 때는, 누군가 앞서간 모델이 있으면 따라갈 수 있으면 딱 좋습니다. But what should we do if we want to remain and not be cut off? In such times, it would be ideal to have a model to follow.
앞서간 모델을 이야기 하니까 생각나는 것이 있네요. When talking about role models who have gone before us, something comes to mind.
난민 사역 중에서 청소년 멘토링이라는 분야에 주 정부로부터 지원자금(fund)이 있다고 해서, 그 펀드(지원자금)를 신청해서 타 보려고 하는데 쉽지가 않습니다. When discussing role models who have gone before us, something comes to mind. I heard that there is funding available from the state government for refugee youth mentoring programs, and I am trying to apply for this fund, but it is not easy.
정부에서 마련한 돈을 따 내는 것이라서 그런지 얼마나 까다로운지 몰라요. Perhaps it's because it's government-provided funds, but you wouldn't believe how stringent the process is.
저로서는 그런 분야에 처음 펀드를 신청해 보는 것이라서, 프로포절(제안서)을 어떻게 써야 할지 앞이 캄캄했습니다. As it's my first time applying for a fund in this area, I was at a loss as to how to write the proposal.
그래서 주 정부 담당자에게 좋은 샘플 모델을 받아 볼 수 있겠느냐고 했더니, 딱 잘라 거절하더군요. So, I asked the state government official if I could get a good sample model, but they flatly refused.
그런 건 안된데요. 설명서를 잘 읽어보고 알아서 만들어 마감일까지 제출하라는 겁니다. They said that's not allowed. Instead, I was told to carefully read the guidelines, create the proposal myself, and submit it by the deadline.
아, 이럴 때 누군가 앞서 프로포절을 써서 합격한 사람이 나타나서 그 제안서 샘플을 보여주면 얼마나 좋을까? 이런 생각을 해보았습니다. Ah, at times like this, I thought how great it would be if someone who had previously written a successful proposal could show me a sample of their proposal.
우리의 일상 생활이나 신앙생활 속에서도 잘리지 않고 붙어 있는 방법을 아는 좋은 모델이 있다면 따라서 하면 됩니다. 그렇지 않나요? In our daily lives and spiritual journeys, if there is a good model that knows how to remain and not be cut off, we can simply follow it. Isn't that right?
그런데 반갑게도 그 모델이 있습니다. 누구일까요? But fortunately, there is such a model. Who could it be?
바로 예수 그리스도이십니다. Indeed, it is Jesus Christ.
그 예수께서 여러분과 저를 하나님 자녀로 끝까지 붙어 있게 하시려고 의지하는 믿음과 겸손의 믿음과 순종하는 믿음의 본을 보여 주셨습니다. Jesus Christ has shown us the example of a faith that relies on God, a faith that is humble, and a faith that is obedient, to keep us as God's children until the end.
그래서 그 분만 바라보고 의지하며 복사하듯이 그대로 따라가면 안전합니다. Therefore, if we look to Him, rely on Him, and follow His example as if we are copying Him, we will be safe.
이제 잘리느냐 붙어 있느냐의 문제는 여러분과 제가 그 예수 모델을 믿고 따르기로 선택하느냐, 그렇지 않느냐에 달려 있습니다. Now, the issue of whether we remain or are cut off depends on whether you and I choose to believe in and follow the example of Jesus.
하나님은 지금도 여러분의 선택을 기다리고 계십니다. God is still waiting for your choice.
